Genius Hour Reflection
Summarize the purpose of your Genius Hour project in 140 characters.
The purpose of my Genius Hour project was to help the community to get into a routine of fitness. This would help them to have a more healthy lifestyle, as well as benefit from physical changes in their body structure.
Explain the process of your Genius Hour project. Be reflective. Be contemplative. Explain and describe your journey. (No Less Than Three FULL Paragraphs.)
The process to complete the steps to take and the actual completion of the project was pretty involved and took a little while to carry them out. The first thing that had to do was find a facility where I could hold a cardio session week after week. I was able to accomplish that with the help of one of my friends who rented out the Aurora gym every weekend.
The next step that I had to take in sights of completing this project was to get people to participate in these sessions. One way I did this was by spreading the word about it to some of my friends. This was a good way to spread the word because it caused them to talk to other people they know about it and that spread pretty good. He next step was to set a time. That was pretty easy, I just set it for Saturdays at five.
The next step was to assemble all the equipment that I needed for the workout. That includes dumbbells, mats, and also a medicine ball. I was able to accomplish that through the help of my friends, as well as I had some equipment already. The last step was to actually have the class. The first time I had it was a success. I learned where everyone was physically, and that helped me to switch up workouts and make the workouts just hard enough for the level of the people.
The intention For Genius Hour is NOT only to learn, but ALSO to share your knowledge with others who can and will benefit from your learning. How did you share your learning? What do you hope the result might be? (No Less Than Two Full Paragraphs.)
I shared my learning by doing an overview of every workout that we would be doing in that specific workout before we started. I used a lot of the same workouts I learned in Advanced Fit, because that is where I got most all of my information from. This made the nights go by smoothly and there would not have to be any delays in the workout, so we could have a constant risen heart rate and develop muscle endurance.
The result that I was hoping for was that the people participating in the workout would not have to ask the same questions over and over again. They could get the procedure of each workout down and know what each workout would work in terms of various muscles it could be benefiting. After all, the result I was hoping for did come to life and all the workouts and all plans worked out very smoothly.
If you could do anything different with your Genius Hour project what would you do differently and why? (No less than two full paragraphs.)
One thing that I might have differently was the style of cardiovascular workouts that we did. The workout I did at the beginning was a metabolic meltdown, which is a pretty generic workout. I feel it was a little more on the easy side, and so did the participants. Some of the people did not even break a sweat. I should have done a crossfit, a much more challenging workout.
Another thing I would have done differently if I had the opportunity to do was to have a bigger venue to host my sessions at. The gym I used was not that small, but it was smaller than the gold gym. If I had a way to get a full sized gym, something to the effect of the blue gym, that would have been a great opportunity to have especially when the workout requires some running, running in a bigger space is way nicer.
Reflect on what you did well during this Genius Hour process? Note your successes and accomplishments. (No less than two full paragraphs.)
Definitely one thing I thought I did very well was keeping the routine of have the class most every Saturday. I’m sure many people that might do something similar to project like mine might only have their class only once or twice, but the circumstances I had allowed me to keep up with the program.
One other thing I thought that I did pretty well was getting people to come. Many people today don’t care about their fitness and health today, which is a huge problem in our society today. When I first started this project, I did not know how it was going to happen, but sure enough, people seemed to be interested. Even some of the more lazy people decided to come, which is a huge thing for me as the organizer of the class.
